Profile

James Freed is the author of the novels The Unfulfilled and The Illiterate. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, Stereogum, on NPR (Neighborhood Public Radio) in conjunction with the 2008 Whitney Biennial and elsewhere. He holds a BA from American University and an MFA from the New School. He is also co-founder/curator of The Enclave Reading Series (http://theenclavereadingseries.tumblr.com/), which has put together readings in lower Manhattan since 2006 and regularly features internationally acclaimed writers such as Carmen Boullosa, Phillip Lopate, Juan Villoro and Lynne Tillman, among others.

 

Originally from Philadelphia, Freed currently lives in Brooklyn where he is working on his next novel. He also works in the newsroom of The New York Times and teaches literature and writing at LaGuardia Community College in Queens.
